Election officials in an upstate New York county last week asked for an investigation of activists apparently impersonating election officials and visiting voters’ homes, in an effort to find evidence of voter fraud.
Syracuse.com reports that the Onondaga County Board of Elections asked the county sheriff to look into reports that citizens impersonating county elections officials visited homes of voters, accusing residents of being registered to vote in more than one county.
In 2021, a group called New York Citizen Audit was formed, dedicated to QUOTE to “restoring and maintaining the essential, founding American principle of sovereignty through honest, provable elections in New York and across the nation.” The group is petitioning for an end-to-end audit of the 2022 New York State Election election, points out voter registration anomalies to county officials, and makes claims of suspicious programming of the state voter databases.
It is not yet clear whether the fringe libertarian-leaning New York Citizen Audit is connected with the impersonations, but reporting by NPR affiliate WBFO quotes the group’s founder Marly Hornik as saying “very few people on our team function under their real name.”
County election officials call the intrusions an attempt to intimidate voters, and ask for the public’s help in identifying the suspects. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in New York.
