Voting rights updates from Wisconsin and Nevada today.
The never-ending 2020 sham review in Wisconsin just got yet another extension from the speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, who is not a professional auditor, had been given a taxpayer-funded budget of $676,000 dollars, which includes an $11,000 monthly salary.
Since the review launched in June 2021, Gableman has missed multiple deadlines to issue a final report. Enter former President Donald Trump, who threatened Assembly Speaker Robin Vos with supporting a primary challenger. The Gableman contract was extended the next day.
In Nevada, a circuit court judge blocked a Republican-led citizen referendum aimed at ending AB321, a measure approved by the legislature in 2021, which implements universal mail-in voting in Nevada. In a separate case, another judge threw out the language used on the petition regarding voter ID changes, citing it as being argumentative. Doing so invalidated the signatures collected, and there will not be enough time to collect enough by state deadlines.
